Chana dahl is a split Bengal gram with a sweet and nutty flavour – the most popular legume in India. Channa Dhal is made from blanched and split brown chickpeas. Chana Dahl forms a robust, textured dhal when cooked, compared to the smooth texture of most other kinds.

Chana dahl is high in fiber, a rich source of protein and also a good option for people who are on a low carb or diabetic-friendly diet.

How to Use:

To prepare Chana Dahl rinse thoroughly before adding to a large pot of cold water (1:5). Boil for 10 minutes, reduce heat and allow to simmer for a further 15 minutes.

Chana dahl should be softened but slightly firm to the bite. Drain to use. For a creamy texture, peas can be cooked a little longer. Alternatively, chana dahl can be rinsed then soaked in cold water for 2-4 hours, before adding directly to soups and cooking for about 35 minutes.

Use chana dahl in a hearty soup, spicy curries or mouth-watering hot pots.

Cooled dahl is a delicious addition to fresh salads or home-made veggie burgers.
