Parboiled brown rice is rice that’s been partially cooked. It has a different texture to regular rice when cooked – the grains are firmer and less likely to stick together.

Parboiled rice is healthier than regular rice, because it’s processed in a different way. After the grains are harvested, they are soaked, steamed and dried whilst still in their husks. This means that some of the nutrients from the husks find their way into the grains. This doesn’t happen with regular rice, where the husks are removed before processing and all the benefits are lost.

Parboiling also helps extend the life of the rice, cuts down on the cooking time and is easier to digest.

How Much: 1 Cup ~ 230g

Instructions:

Boil (Lid off):

  1. Rinse Macro Organic Brown Rice with cold water.
  2. Place 1 cup (230g) of washed Macro Organic Brown Rice into a saucepan.
  3. Add 4-5 cups of water to the rice and bring to boil, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce heat and boil gently, uncovered for approximately 40-45 minutes.
  5. Remove form heat. Drain well and serve.

Absorption (Lid on)

  1. Rinse Macro Organic Brown Rice with cold water.
  2. Place 1 cup (230g) of washed Macro Organic Brown Rice into a saucepan.
  3. Add 2 cups of cold water to the rice and bring to the boil, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30-35 minutes (or your preferred texture).
  5. Remove from heat and stand, covered for 5-10 minutes and serve.

Storage: Store somewhere cool, dark, dry and airtight to keep it fresh.
